6/8/16 – You have received the Spirit who is from God

Published: Wednesday, 08 June 2016 Written by Carlton L. Arnold

What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.  This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. 1 Corinthians 2:12-13

It stretches our finite and simple minds to accept the spiritual fact that God has freely given us the Holy Spirit.  When a Christian reaches this understanding, his/her entire world is turned upside down and inside out.  It is a time of clarity of thinking, because the Holy Spirit begins to reveal spiritual realities in a way that we understand.

The experience of salvation where we recognize and accept the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ for the total forgiveness of our sins is a “sky-high” moment in our life.  Baptism is another spiritually superlative moment in our Christian life.  However, to begin to see spiritual realities is a moment that rivals our salvation experience.

It is obvious that Christians do not receive the spirit of this world.  The spirit of this world is Satan and every evil act that he and his demons perform on this earth.  Many times I have said that most of the news that is reported by TV, newspapers, and magazines are the results of Satan and his bunch of demons.  As Believers, we need to guard our heart and mind against thinking more worldly as opposed to thinking about spiritual realities.  Satan’s news consists of reporting murders, rapes, child abuse, sex trade, hate, lies, divorces, wars and all other things that involve destroying the healthy relationships between people.

God has given us the Holy Spirit so that we can understand the promises of God, and how they impact our lives.  This is a huge part of maturing as a Believer.  One of the top needs that Christians express about their lives involves how to apply spiritual truths to their lives.  From the passage above, spiritual maturity involves understanding spiritual realities that only the Holy Spirit can explain to you.  You cannot use any of your own logic, reasoning, or thoughts to understand spiritual realities.  Only the Holy Spirit can do this.  This is why I believe that a Christian experiences a hallelujah moment when they begin to understand things from a spiritual point of view.

Spiritual taught words are used to understand spiritual realities.  For example, consider the spiritual reality of these words spoken by Christ, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6).  This statement is so powerful that it completely blocks out anything of this world.  It is a declaration that there is only one God and one Savior and His name is Jesus Christ.  A statement like this can only be explained through spiritual realities and spiritual words.

I pray that you will spend quality time in God’s Word, and meditate on the spiritual realities that the Holy Spirit gives you as you study.  He knows exactly what you need or will need in the near future.  He will give you the spiritual realities for you to get through the next round of spiritual warfare in the world brought on by Satan.
