10/26/16 - Believers are all around you

Published: Wednesday, 26 October 2016 Written by Carlton L. Arnold

One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: "Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent.  For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city."  Acts 18:9-10

Over the years, God has surprised me with people who identify themselves as Christians in all areas of life. It was my lack of confidence in the power of God that limited my Christian interaction with others. This is the reason why the verses above are so meaningful to me.  I will probably be surprised at some people that I will meet in heaven. There are many that come to my mind that seem a “shoe-in”. But, I have this nagging feeling that there are some people who will come up to me and ask if I remember them. I am glad that shame will not exist in heaven, because I believe I would be full of shame at not recognizing them.

I remember on a business trip to an infamous “sin” city, a man who was traveling with me literally pulled me away from the flesh of this world.  I do not remember his name. I do not even remember what he looks like. But God has reminded me of that incident so many times to show me that He has many people in the city, and that He would protect me using those people. This incident reminds me of the verses above. God has people everywhere, and He has them in places that are for your protection.

There are two things that I want you to consider about the above comments. The first is that God knows where you will be every moment of every day.  He knows who will be with you, and He knows what your vulnerabilities will be in certain situations.  God has placed people that will come in contact with you that will help you maintain your integrity of faith before God.  Your flesh may be very strong, but God and His people assigned to you are stronger.

The second thing that I want you to consider about these verses and the truth about God’s people is that you are one of those people.  This is the most unnerving thing for me, because God has placed me with people that need encouragement about their faith and their integrity.  He expects me to remind people of His truths and the world’s lies.  Like Moses, who am I to do something like that?  But, that’s the point of the above verses: God has placed the people who need YOU at certain times in their life!  If I fail to do what He wants me to say and do to help someone in their faith, He has countless of others who will do it.  He will never fail to be anywhere you are to protect you.

Never accept Satan’s lie that you are alone as a Believer.  There may be times when other Believers seem to forget about you or you have strong feelings of “aloneness” in a world gone crazy.  God’s remnant of true Believers has always been there, and they have always been strong in their faith.  My suggestion is to not wait on them finding you, but that you take the initiative to seek out other Believers.  I believe that there will be mutual encouragement that is much needed in the world today.
