1/4/17 - Your life should be a reflection of God’s love

Published: Wednesday, 04 January 2017 Written by Carlton L. Arnold

One way not to imitate God is, unfortunately, how most Believers attempt to live a life imitating God.  They do it by using their own flesh.  We are driven to obtain our own self-worth through worldly actions and achievements.  What this means is that we try to be nice to people we do not like.  We try to be happy when things are bad.  We do not want others to know about some of the dirty laundry lying around in our lives.  And, read this carefully, we are very concerned about what others think about us: if it is other Believers, then we want to appear spiritual; if we are around non-Believers, we want to fit in.

In the verses above, God tells us how to imitate Him.  Live your life every day knowing that God loves you unconditionally.  This is the source for the deepest and most real “worth” of a person.  Knowing you are loved just as you are frees you up from all of the facades and hypocrisy that makes your life miserable here on earth.  Love God and love others.  But, how?  He tells us how in these verses: “just as Christ loved you and gave himself up for you!”  Instead of you trying to live a Christian life through your flesh, allow the Holy Spirit to show you how Christ imitated God while he (Christ) was on earth.  Jesus offered himself as an offering and a sacrifice to God.  Give up on trying to live the life that you have mapped out in your head and give yourself to the love of God.

When you live your life as a Believer by the power of the Holy Spirit (and not by your own power), your life will reveal the deepest need of human beings – to be loved unconditionally.  By presenting yourself as a living sacrifice to God, your life is raised to the highest level of human existence – to be a child of God.   Living your life as a Believer by your own thinking will result in a very tired, worn out, and disillusioned Believer.  Living your life as a Believer by knowing God’s unconditional love for you allows you to love others just as they are.  This is how Believers can imitate God and become a sweet fragrance to him.
