3/1/17 - Worthy is the Lamb that was slain

Published: Wednesday, 01 March 2017 Written by Carlton L. Arnold

And they sang a new song, saying:  “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.

Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders.  In a loud voice they were saying: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!”  Revelation 5:9,11-12

All of Revelation Chapter 5 takes place in heaven.  It was very difficult to pick one or two verses from Chapter 5.  I encourage you to read this chapter from Revelation and sense the attitude of praise and worship for Christ.  Try to imagine thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand voices singing “worthy is the Lamb, who was slain.”  I think it is one of the most famous chapters in the Bible and should be read on a regular basis by all Believers.

The scroll is interpreted to be the title deed to the earth.  In Genesis, God gave Adam dominion over the earth (Genesis 1:26).  When Adam and Eve sinned against God in the Garden of Eden, they forfeited the dominion of the earth to Satan. For example, after Jesus was baptized, He was led into the wilderness and was tested by Satan.  Satan offered Jesus all the kingdoms of the earth if He would bow down and worship Satan (Matthew 4:8-9).  The world has been under the dominion of Satan since Adam and Eve sinned.  This is why there is so much evil in the world, and it will not end until Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, opens the scroll described in the verses above.

Jesus Christ is the one who was slain, i.e., died on the cross for the sins of every person in the world.  This is the cause for everyone in heaven to sing aloud “worthy is the Lamb.”  This makes me think that even though I barely sing aloud during church worship, I will sing ALOUD when I am in heaven.  It is beyond words to gain a full realization of what Jesus Christ has done for this world and will do in the future.  Christ will open the first seal of the seven seals on the scroll and the Great Tribulation will descend onto this earth.  He is the only one that can open the seals, because He restored the relationship between God and human beings through His blood.

Christ is worthy to receive “power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!”  Whenever you are involved with worship, remember these words.  Jesus Christ redeemed you from this world of sin dominated by Satan, and He has given you a true and permanent relationship with God.  He is worthy!  Find a song that you can put into your heart to remind you of what Christ has done for you.  Make a copy of the verses above and place them on your refrigerator or on your bathroom mirror.  An even stronger suggestion is to place the copy on your TV screen.  Everyday you will have to move it to watch TV.  It will help you put into perspective why Christ is worthy of your continuous and vibrant praise.
