5/3/17 - God's promises of comfort

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort. 2 Corinthians 1:3-7

Where do you go to find comfort? Do not depend on this world to provide you the comfort that you are seeking. This world allows so much suffering due to man’s free will and the dominion of Satan and his host of demons. This world cannot provide you with the comfort that you so desperately seek. Alcohol, prescription drugs, and even memories of loved ones provide a false and temporary feeling of comfort; tough to say this, but God would prefer you think on heavenly things.

Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4

Shout for joy, you heavens; rejoice, you earth; burst into song, you mountains! For the Lord comforts his people and will have compassion on his afflicted ones. Isaiah 49:13

You who are my Comforter in sorrow, my heart is faint within me. Jeremiah 8:18

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Matthew 5:4

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[a]; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” John 14:1-4

In the verses above, genuine, real, true, and permanent comfort can only be found in the Omnipotent Creator, God. Jesus Christ applied God’s idea of comfort while on this earth. We are to give comfort to others when we are not comforted ourselves. God has a plan for eternity that will only consist of comfort. No more tears, hunger, thirst, and many other things that causes us great discomfort. God will remove the causes of all these human needs. We will have springs of living water and the Tree of Life. PLUS, we will experience the presence of God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit. In the mean time, be patient and faithful so that you will endure to the end. I personally needed this today!
