Fathers: You have not obeyed the words of the Bible

Published: Wednesday, 04 June 2014 Written by Super User

“Go and inquire of the Lord for me and for the people and for all Judah about what is written in this book that has been found.  Great is the Lord’s anger that burns against us because our fathers have not obeyed the words of this book; they have not acted in accordance with all that is written there concerning us.”  2 Kings 22:13

A spiritual discipline for every maturing Believer is the reading and studying of God’s Word, the Bible.  There was a time in the history of the Jewish nation that the “book” was lost.  The verse above provides a brief description of the finding of the Bible (“Book of the Covenant” as it was known at that time.)  The entire book was read to all of Judah and they realized how far away from God they were.  For the same reason, we all need to read the Bible on a consistent basis.  The Words of God, the Bible, are living and powerful. They will bring life to your soul and purpose to your life.

If you are not reading and studying the Bible on a daily basis, then you are exposing yourself to be influenced by whatever this world is promoting, and, this world is not promoting life, joy, and peace.  Compare any newspaper article to a chapter in the Bible.  The first one will give you the latest murder details, political fighting, abuse of others, abhorrent behavior of famous people, etc.  The other will allow God, through the Holy Spirit, to give you an eternal view that puts this world and all of its “malignant activities” into perspective.  Listen to me carefully and loudly.  Your entire life will become a malignancy when you fill it only with the things of this world.  You can choose to read anything you want on a daily basis, but as for me, I choose to read the Bible any day and every day!

In the verses above, the source for God’s anger against us comes from our fathers who have not obeyed the words of Bible.  Most of you know that I published a book called “God and Men: No-Holds-Barred”.  Here is another reason why Satan would love to tear the family apart especially in making a father absent from the family.  God has ordained that the fathers have the accountability leadership to spiritually lead their family.  I admire and commend any mother who tries to replace this accountability through their own efforts.  God will bless them.

But, the supernatural occurrence of changed lives comes from the father.  When we see a man genuinely change for God, there is a tornado of spiritual power that is unleashed to touch so many families.  As a man, I have felt this power.  I have also felt the aftermath of an accountability that was not honored nor fulfilled by me.  God has got this spiritual authority down right.  Unfortunately, too many of us men want to live this life with fun for ourselves and not the responsibility we have for our wives and children.

All of the surveys in the U.S. point to a spiraling decline of moral and ethical decay, because fathers are not living up to God’s standards.  God is the judge and He will judge us.  But, instead of discipline and spiritual leadership prompted by guilt on the part of the man, the man must develop the same unconditional love that Christ showed all of us on the cross.  Men, let’s step up to the plate regardless of the cost to save our families.  God will end this world, but, as an earthly father, you have a lot to do on how a little boy or a little girl is influenced by God the Father.
