3/4/15 – God rescues me

Written by Carlton L. Arnold

He reached down from on high and seized me; drew me out of the deep waters.  He rescued me from my mighty enemy, from foes too powerful for me.  They attacked me on my day of distress, but the Lord was my support.  He set me free in the open; he rescued me because he loves me. (NABRE) Psalm 18:17-20

He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters.  He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me.  They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the Lord was my support.  He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.  (NIV) Psalm 18:17-19

There are so many things in this world that cause fear, uncertainty, and doubt.  The things of this world may seem to be totally out of control.  You may feel closed in or about to go under for the third time, but you have a rescuer – God!

Human beings are the only living creatures that desire to intentionally hurt other human beings.  These people empty themselves of any and all concern for others.  Life is meaningless to them. These kinds of things bother us, because God puts life as His most valuable creation.

We can also suffer through relationship problems that can be a constant worry for us.  We can make some bad financial decisions that keep us up at night worrying about how to get out of a deep, dark hole that looks too deep.  Physical illnesses can suck the life out of you whether it is you that is sick or a loved one. These problems can overwhelm you to the point of physical and mental illness.  You will feel heavy and drained of energy.  You may not be able to see a solution and your attitude will be of despair and hopelessness.

The Bible verses above gives you relief from any of the problems that you may be going through.  Psalm 18 was written when David was being hunted and persecuted.  Things were looking hopeless against overwhelming odds.  I am sure that David felt weak and helpless.  We can have the same feelings of despair that David suffered.  But David had a rescuer just like you have.

God reaches from the spiritual realm to put His protective power around you in the worldly realm.  He does not say that He will remove the problems.  God says He will rescue you from things that are totally out of your control.  He will turn your hopelessness into a greater and brighter hope.  He will be with you throughout any problem that you may have. The question is whether you believe God’s Word or not.

Let me repeat, “Do you believe God’s word?”  This takes faith, because without faith it is impossible to please God.  God is saying to get your mind off your problems and to guard your heart.  Rest in the Word of God that is more powerful than any other force known to man. He will rescue you and support you.  He will delight in you.  He is the all powerful and all mighty Creator who loves you unconditionally.  With these thoughts, God will appear much more awesome and comforting than any problems you may have.  But you must think on His Greatness and not your small, temporary problems.
