3/25/15 – God reveals Himself to everyone

Written by Carlton L. Arnold

But when the magicians tried to produce gnats by their secret arts, they could not.  Since the gnats were on people and animals everywhere, the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God.” But Pharaoh’s heart was hard and he would not listen, just as the Lord had said.  Exodus 8:18-19

I encourage you to read about the 10 plagues that God placed on Egypt so that Pharaoh would free the nation of Israel.  You will find them in the book of Exodus, Chapters 7 – 12.  They are fascinating in so many ways.  Each plague was a direct attack on a specific Egyptian idol.  Many of the plagues affected only the Egyptians and not the Israelites.  Millions of people saw these plagues.  Many Egyptians came to know about Jehovah God.  You will meet many of them in heaven.  Read about them and carefully note that God was revealing Himself to every Egyptian.

The plague described above is about an over abundance of gnats.  This would be like the “no-see-ums” you find in the Deep South.  They can literally drive you crazy.  This is the third plague.  In the first two plagues the Egyptian magicians could duplicate the plagues of “water to blood” and “frogs”.  However, they could not duplicate this and all the other plagues that follow.  The abundance of evidence that God was at work caused the Egyptian magicians to tell Pharaoh that the plagues were the work of God!

This is a remarkable statement because most Believers know just about enough of the Old Testament to summarize it as a history of the Jews.  The Old Testament is much more than that.  God shows on numerous occasions His revealing Himself to non-Jews.  God loves everyone and will give everyone all they need to recognize and accept who He is.  For example, in Exodus 7:5, “And the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I stretch out my hand against Egypt.”  I love this tremendously, because God reveals Himself to everyone in a way that is the best way for each person to get to know God. No one will be able to say that God never gave him or her a chance to get to know Him.

I know that I can look back over my life and see God working on my life in many and various ways.  I believe He does that for everyone - no one exempted.  As Believers, God sought us and squeezed our hearts to show what was inside of us.  Recognizing how spiritually bankrupt we are, God leads us by the Holy Spirit to learn of Him as our Savior.  Salvation for each individual is an amazing story that can only be told by God and that person.  Spend some quality time thinking about how God revealed Himself to you.  Remember: God reveals Himself in the good times and the bad times.  He is more interested in your eternal life than your temporal life on this earth.
