Christian Men's Manual

How shall Christian men live according to God's Word? The author selects important verses that are relevant to the issues men face in life. He explains them and shows how to apply them. He shares from his own experiences and he hopes the readers will be challenged to live by God's principles with no compromise. I'm a woman but I still enjoyed reading the book. I felt like I was gleaning advice from a caring mentor with a fatherly concern. I underlined as I read. I appreciate the author's no-nonsense/no sugarcoating approach. I can tell that he's passionate about God and His Word. He wants to see other men develop a strong and deep relationship with God and to see their lives transformed by God's truths.

There are 52 chapters which are divided into 5 sections: Foundations of Being a Believer, The Beginnings of a Growing Faith, Maturing in the Faith, Specific Topics Related to Men, and Future Expectations. At the end of the book, you will find the list of Bible verses used and index of major topics. Some of the topics included are anger, idols, pornography, priorities, purpose, sin, etc. The book can be used as a devotional, a personal Bible study, or a small group Bible study. I've used it in our family's Bible time. I find this book helpful for my 12 and 15 year old sons. The author warns readers against worldly living and encourages them to live for God, instead. I want my sons to live for God and be men after God's own heart. This is a great resource for anyone, especially teens, men of any age, or new believers. Practical and insightful!

It is not very often do I stumble over a publication that has the ability to literally stop me in my proverbial tracks of daily living in the same way that “Life Changing Verses” has time and again. I am convinced that these books will eventually find their place on the shelves of Christendom’s finest libraries. Digest it, distribute it and deliberately devour volume IV as each book is better than before.

An interesting guide to lead men to God

God and Men: No-Holds-Barred by Carlton Lee Arnold offers an interesting twist on Christian devotionals. The author covers how to address many issues men encounter through Scriptural references accompanied by commentary, although many of the topics contain information applicable to women as well. Throughout the book, lies an underlying question: Are you living according to the standards of God or the standards of the world?

The book is broken into 5 sections allowing easy access to topics of interest: Foundations of Being a Believer, The Beginning of a Growing Faith, Maturing in the Faith, Topics Related to Men, and Future Expectations. Each section is divided into chapters, further dissecting section-topics. For example, the Maturing in the Faith section contains a chapter urging men to protect their families from Satan’s attacks. He reminds the reader “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy … (John 10:10).” Men are to be not only the spiritual leader of the family but also the spiritual projector. He cautions allowing Satan a foothold in our lives through anger, depression, sadness, or retrieval of your peace and joy or the over-engagement in activities that cause you to neglect the study of God’s Word. Satan is in the business to destroy relationships with God, children, and the love between a man and wife.

God and Men: No-Holds-Barred specific topics related to men include chapters regarding anger, pornography, idols, and husbands loving their wives, fathers disciplining their children, church attendance, and accountability. The author declares a Christian man should never become angry and provides instructions on eliminating anger. Men engaged in pornography are pointed to what Jesus said about adultery: “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart (Matthew 5:27-28).” Arnold says Jesus definition of adultery defines what is known as pornography in today’s world—the explicit portrayal of sexual subject matter for the purpose of sexual gratification.

He cautions men against loving the things of this world—cars, houses, careers, sports, TV, and their toys—rather than the pursuit of loving and building relationships with God, their wives, and children. God and Men: No-Holds-Barred addresses many issues men face and provide a road map for them to apply Scripture to their daily lives in a friendly, conversational manner.

An Excellent Resource

About the Book:

God and Men: No-Holds-Barred is not your typical devotional book. It is highly probable that you will be greatly challenged with God and Men: No-Holds-Barred. The objective is to encourage you to become more Christ-like in your living. Through reading God and Men: No-Holds-Barred, it is guaranteed that you will become more convicted either with living by the world's standards or by God's standards. The book will not allow you to remain neutral. It attempts to answer the question, "How does the Bible describe a Real Christian Man?" Its objective is to enable Christians to personally apply specific Bible verses to their personal lives.

At the same time, you will learn more about your Bible as well as receive an in-depth discussion of the verses selected. Since men do not naturally read books, it is highly recommended that you read the book with someone else. This introduces a joint accountability to read the book through. Husbands and wives are strongly recommended to share this method of reading through the book. "Someone once said that all scripture is inspired by God, but is not all equally inspiring. These are the really inspiring verses. The underlined verses. The memorized verses. Explained. Applied. Illustrated. We need to be reminded often of these verses. This book will help."

About the Author:

After accepting Christ at the age of 12 years old, it was not until 30 that Carlton Arnold had a deep hunger to read and study God’s Word. For the past 35 years, he has been heavily involved in teaching Bible study classes that allowed him to gain a unique perspective of what Christians in different parts of the country experience. Arnold currently lives in Cumming, Georgia with his wife of 44 years.

My Review:

The men in our lives need that male role model to show them God's truth revealed. in God's eyes we have to chose a side those that are not with Him are most definitely against Him. Mr. Arnold, sees the need that men of today need and has decided to rise to the call of mentor&friend. The best part I feel of the whole book, is that the author has first hand experience because him being a man helps to relate to other men better. He knows what they think and how they think.

Being married for twenty years, I can tell you that the subjects he addresses in the book are specifically geared towards a man's heart. Sometimes the things our husband or man in our life needs to hear come better from another man not us girls. Don't ask me why, they just hear it better coming from them. I especially liked the chapter on yelling, this applies to a man that I know. He really struggles with it so I hope to pass along the book to him and I hope it ministers to him.

The devotional type book, God and Men: No Holds Barred, is a book where the author has taken his experiences and scripture and created a teaching tool for men to help gauge their lives to radiate the Lord. In the hopes that by glorifying their relationships and learning to think better, to live better, they will glorify the Master.
